Helping Doctorate Students Navigate Their Journey to Success
The Professional Doctorate Degree (PDD) Housing Initiative provides essential housing support for students of color pursuing professional doctorate degrees, allowing them to concentrate on their education and future careers without the burden of housing insecurity.
Despite their academic excellence and potential for significant societal impact, many of these students encounter substantial financial and housing barriers that jeopardize their ability to thrive in their programs. Rising rent costs, tuition burdens, and a lack of generational wealth disproportionately affect under-represented students, leading to a crisis of stability during some of the most demanding years of their education.
The PDD Housing Initiative offers direct housing assistance of up to $1500 per month per student for one year, along with wraparound support services. Through grant sponsorships and community engagement, we fund sustainable housing for these future leaders, enabling them to focus fully on their studies and careers. Additionally, we create mentorship and scholarship programs that build bridges between professionals and students of color, ensuring long-term impact and uplift across communities.
By investing in the housing stability of the students, the PDD Housing Initiative is also investing in a more equitable, diverse, and empowered future for healthcare, legal services, and public leadership.

*Students of color often borrow more due to less generational wealth and fewer scholarship programs opportunities, leading to increased reliance on private loans. Therefore, housing support for students can play a crucial role in alleviating some financial burdens associated with pursuing professional doctorate degrees.

“Even with loans and limited housing support for students, my rent was a monthly battle. A program like this would have meant more sleep, less stress, and better grades, ultimately helping me pursue professional doctorate degrees and access scholarship programs.”
There were weeks when I bounced from couch to couch for late-night study sessions because I couldn’t afford rent. If I had access to housing support for students, this program would have changed EVERYTHING for me. Additionally, with the right scholarship programs, pursuing professional doctorate degrees would have felt much more attainable.
“Abso-freakin-lutely!!! I’m mad there wasn’t housing support for students like this when I was in med school! I stayed in Bedstuy. Not Brooklyn, Bedstuy! Before gentrification! There were so many times we had to find sketchy places off Craigslist, especially when looking for affordable options while pursuing my professional doctorate degrees. It would have been great to have access to scholarship programs back then!”
